How did you become part of the Brüning Group?

After leaving school, I applied to several companies for a commercial apprenticeship and, after a short internship, I was very impressed by the open corporate culture of the Brüning Group.

I knew that I wanted to pursue an academic career sooner or later. So instead of an apprenticeship, I was advised to do a dual study programme: the best way to gain work experience during my studies and get to know how a company works.

The concept turned out to work well for me.

What is the funniest or craziest thing that has happened to you at the Brüning Group?

Apart from the legendary company events, I remember an event when I got to know the roundwood unit.

There was an issue because formulas in an Excel spreadsheet were not working as expected. We spent over an hour talking in numbers, matching up measurements from hundreds of logs, each individually numbered.

“Log no. 1024-03?” “Available.” “Reference number 32047?” “Matches.”

After half an hour, I could hardly contain my laughter, which the others joined in with.

Which famous person (dead or alive) would you like to be your mentor for a day and why?

I admire Steve Jobs for his unyielding determination to use his vision to create a company whose products have been enthralling and polarising for decades.

What is your favourite motto for difficult situations at work?

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela
