DEAN SCANLAN

International Business Development Manager Pellets

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working predominately across international business development for pellets, the domestic pellet business in the UK, and waste, my role is varied, which is something I really enjoy. Each market has its own nuances and challenges, which means the day is never dull! As I work with a small team in the UK, it is always good to meet and catch up with international colleagues at the head office several times per year professionally and socially to discuss developments.

What has been your funniest experience at work so far?

The company culture of encouraging regular team building events, has meant that I’ve been fortunate enough to witness many funny experiences (from covering myself in coca cola after a bottle exploded to bad singing and dancing), but my funniest moment was when I’d recently joined the company and had visited Bremen, where some colleagues were not too confident to speak English and sometimes misunderstood what I was saying. I asked a colleague about logging onto the computer system and they took me to the coffee machine and showed me how to make a cappuccino!

What should never be missing in your daily work?

Good communication with colleagues, new opportunities to develop professionally and personally, and coffee!

If you could invent a machine or technology that would make your job at the Brüning Group easier, what would it be?

If a 3-D printer can produce a clone of me, that would be great, as I sometimes feel that I need to be in at least 2 places at once!

Name your work or life motto to make the day your day.

Do the best you can do every day, whether professionally or personally and then you will have nothing to regret.
